Welfare
be to our mother and father. Welfare be to the cows, to the
world and all men. May everyone, near and dear to us, be happy
and endowed with auspicious knowledge. May we be seeing the Sun
for a long time.
June
was relatively a quiet month at the temple considering the
hectic schedule of the previous two months. One of the memorable
events that took place at the temple was the concert by Padma
Vibhushan Dr Mangalampalli Balamuralikrishna on Saturday, June
10. It was an unforgettable evening with record crowds gathering
in the temple auditorium. Everyone enjoyed the melodious voice
of the Master of Carnatic music, which has not changed a bit
over the years. The temple was able to raise more than $13,000
for upcoming projects. We thank one and all for making this
event a grand success by every measure. A special note of thanks
is due to Ashok Kumar and his team of volunteers for making
excellent seating arrangements for the audience.
Another
event worth mentioning is the SAI Health Fair that was organized
at the temple by the Telugu Association of Metro Atlanta on June
17. Many hundreds
of people received health check ups and laboratory testing free
of cost. Sujatha Reddy, the treasurer of the Hindu temple and
Bala Indurti of TAMA were instrumental in putting this community
event together. Our hearty congratulations to all those who
contributed to the success of this event.
The
seminar on “Nutrition” held on the same day was a huge hit.
Those who attended the seminar benefited a lot; thanks to the
careful planning and execution of the material collected by the
panelists. We thank Meera Penumetcha and Aparna Mahakala for
their valuable contributions.
Twelve
shilpis arrived from India to complete the Raja Gopura Nirmanam
of the Siva Temple. The auspicious beginning of the Rajagopura
Nirmanam is set for 11.30 AM on Saturday, July 1, 2006.
As one can guess, this is an expensive project and we
hope that many devotees will help us with generous donations. We
offer our sincere thanks to Rajyam Mohan for helping the shilpis
settle down comfortably in their new homes.
The
new Ratham (chariot) arrived from Bangalore a few weeks ago.
It took two days for the shilpis to assemble the $ 20,000
ratham ready to roll. On Monday, June 19, it took its
circumambulation of the temple for the first time. The first
Ratha Prakaratsovam is scheduled for Sunday, October 1, 2006 as
part of the Vijaya Dasami celebrations. The pictures of the new
ratham can be seen on the home page of the HTA website. Those
who want to contribute toward the cost of the Ratham may do so
either online or at the temple. The suggested donation is $100.
Many
important events are scheduled for upcoming months. Please check
the temple calendar and plan to attend them.
